April 2002 Debacle

The purpose of this page is to let people know why my site was down during much of April 2002, and to ask for help.

The details are not all that important. The overview is that a large hosting company bought a smaller hosting company, then arbitrarily decided to ignore my pre-existing contract, charged me triple, refused to discuss the dispute, and then shut down my connection took my servers.

It has taken thousands of dollars and hundereds of hours to get new servers built and restored from backups, and to secure another reasonably-priced connection. Some data and programs were lost and will have to be rebuilt.

I will pick up the pieces and continue. Plans for the future may shift in time, but not in focus. Donations of any size are appreciated now more than ever.
